There is lots of amazing stuff happening in Dublin this summer, and this is definitely one of the highlights for me. Candy Collective and PhotoIreland have managed to the get the best skate and music photographer, ever, Glen E Friedman ever to come over to the Light House Cinema and present his touring collection – “Fuck You All”. This will be a 40 piece collection that’s never been seen here before. I can’t wait to see what will be in the show, but no doubt it will all be incredible.

It opens on July 8th 2010 and runs for the month of July, and to top it all off Glen himself will be there for the opening and will give an in-depth Q&A on his work and processes. But wait, there’s more, there will also be a very special screening of seminal American band Fugazi’s – Instrument, which was directed by Jem Cohen which Glen has close links with through his last publication “Keep Your Eyes Open”

Recently I managed to get me a first edition of the book ‘Dogtown – the legend of z-boys C.R. Stecyk III and Glen, an I’ll be bringing that along to hopefully get it signed.

Tickets for this screening are available from the Light House website or call direct Http://www.lighthousecinema.ie / 01 879 7601

Hers some links related to the night

Glen E. Friedman is the most significant photographer of his generation. His images of the early Dogtown skateboarders in the late 1970s along with the burgeoning hip-hop and punk rock scenes of the 80s and 90s have made him one of the most important photographers today. With the uncanny ability to capture images of people whose subculture was about to change the world, his subjects range from Jay Adams and Tony Alva to Run DMC, Public Enemy and the Beastie Boys to Minor Threat and Black Flag, among many others. Over the years, Friedman has been able to define the moments of the movements that defined an era. This has cemented his place in history as an uncompromising, extremely gifted artist. Friedman’s touring exhibition Fuck You All premiered in 1997 at the Institute of Contemporary Art in London, England. Since then it has been exhibited overseas in Sydney, Australia, Harajuku and Shibuya, in Tokyo Japan, Florence, Milan, Sicily, and Rome in Italy, Berlin, Germany, Stockholm, Sweden, Antwerp, Belgium, and most recently as one of the headliners at Photomonth in Krakow, Poland, and now in Dublin.Stateside, shows have been in Chicago, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, and Los Angeles. Friedman has had books of his work published including Fuck You Heroes, Fuck You Too, The Idealist, Dogtown – The Legend of Z-Boys (with mentor C.R. Stecyk III – it was inspiration to the award winning documentary film Dogtown and Z-Boys that Friedman co-produced); all of which are in multiple editions and pressings. And most recently with the books Recognize and Keep Your Eyes Open.

It’s been a great year so far what with pecha kucha, the oxfam project with a whole bunch of amazing artists, and some more great things in the pipeline. So if you are in Dublin, pop into Topman and have a look at some of our exclusive Topman designs, as well as some of the old favourites. There’s another nice little blog post over on one of my favourite design sites too if you fancy a looksee.

So I’m nearly half way through my other t-shirt project where I am designing one t-shirt a day every day for a year. I started the project on January the first 2010, and have so far managed to design and upload a new tee every day, although sometimes I cut it a bit close to be honest. I didn’t realise it was going to be such a massive project when I came up with it over a few pints last October. Most of the t-shirts are simple black and white designs, some are illustrations, some are twisted slogans or quotes and some are just random thoughts.

Thanks to everyone for all the messages, mails, retweets, and blog write ups. It’s been great fun so far, and hopefully I’ll overhear some more funny conversations, have some more weird dreams, and keep having the random thoughts until December 31st.

You can see more on facebook here, twitter here, and see a year of tees here.

Here’s a few tees from during the year.

I was shitting myself for about 2 weeks before this and I can’t remember the 6 and a half minutes I was on the stage, but the adrenalin took over and I think I mentioned everything I wanted to. I do remember the other speakers, and Steve Simpson was the highlight for me. I spoke about some of my favouritist tees and the tees that have influenced me. I will post up the whole presentation later, but in the mean time here’s some of the slides.
